Improving Your PageRank

Follow my tips to get your PageRank to the Level of 3 (why 3? - well, that´s where I got so far):

Publish original content. If you publish content from other sites, you will be penalized. One of my sites dropped from PageRank 3 to PageRank of 1, because one of my articles was not original. I republished it from a so-called free article database. It was a disaster. Don´t do it!
Get a few links from websites or blogs with a PageRank of at least 3. Link to some popular directories, such as Technorati (see the sidebar of my blog). Without external links you will never get any PageRank. Believe me! That´s how it works.
Get indexed by Google. If you are not indexed, Google will simply not be aware that you exist. You don´t need to submit to Google your URL - the Google robot will visit you, as long as there are external links pointing to your site.

NEW LINKING RULES

As already announced, I will not link to new blogs with a PageRank of less than 1. If you don´t know what a PageRank is, download and install the Google´s Toolbar. Once you have installed it, you will see the Google Toolbar at the top of your browsing window. Make sure that the following icon appears in the toolbar:

Visit your website. If the PageRank is grey, this means that your website/blog has not been yet indexed, and Google does not know that you exist.

If the PageRank is blank, Google knows you, but thinks that your website/blog is not important.

To some extend, the PageRank is determined by the number of important websites linking to you.

I will link to all blogs/websites that meet the minimum criteria and have a PageRank of at least of one (i.e. the PageRank icon must have some green color).

If you have already submitted a linking request, I will link to your site irrespective of your PageRank. However, all new requests will be affected.

This blog started with a page rank of zero and a non-existant Alexa rank. A few months later, the page rank stands at 2 and the Alexa rank is just under 700,000. Not bad for a blog which posts links of other sites for free. The fast and convincing progress of Link Back Link in the cyberspace, dispells a few myths:

No page rank for sites displaying reciprocal links --- NOT TRUE --- all depends on the content of your site.
No indexing for sites displaying reciprocal links --- NOT TRUE --- all pages get indexed within a few days, as long as you publish original content.
There is no link between the Alexa Rank and the traffic volume --- NOT TRUE --- the Alexa rank is indirectly correlated with the number of unique visitors. All that is required is to receive visitors with Alexa toolbars installed in their browsers. A popular site is likely to receive a fair number of such visitors. How to increase your Alex traffic rank?

In my post Alexa Rank which I wrote less than a month ago I have decided to improve my Alexa traffic rank from 2.7 million to below 1 million. As you can see, this goal was reached in less than 3 weeks (my Alexa traffic rank is just above 900,000 right now). The Alexa traffic is rapidly continuing to improve every day! How did I do it? Was it hard and expensive to do? No. Not at all. Just follow four steps, easy!

Install the Alexa Toolbar for Firefox or Internet Explorer. Make sure you browse your site every day. Ask your friends to do the same. Every time you browse your site, Alexa Toolbar will communicate your visits to the Alexa Ranking Engine, which will update your ranking.
Make sure you promote your website among the webmasters, who are likely to use the Alexa Toolbar. One of the best webmaster communities from which I benefitted a lot is housed by linkreferral.com The nice thing about this tool is that you have the option to use it for free.
Make sure you backlink with other webmasters. It will keep traffic and other webmasters coming to your pages. In order to see your link in this blog, visit About Link Back Link.
If you can afford it, launch a small Google AdWords campaign. You can keep your budget small. Put a limit on daily expenditures. Also, make sure you keep a prudent limit on the amount you are willing to pay per each click. My advice is to keep the limit at 10 cents per click.

How to get indexed by search engines?

Following a question on search engine indexing, here´s my answer.

Is it easy to get indexed? Yes. Follow these steps:

Write something original, don´t just copy paste from Wikipedia (many people do) or steal the content from other people.
Exchange links with at least one indexed site. You can check whether the site is indexed by copying some of its content and pasting it into the search bar. Try the main search engines. If the site is indexed, it will come up at the top of search results.

How long does it take?

For very popular sites, indexing is frequent. If your site has not been indexed yet, it might take time. Exchanging links could help to get noticed by search engines.
I checked my previous posts and all of them have been indexed. This means that if your link was posted in my previous posts, the search engines would have visited you by now.

Ensuring the Quality of Links

You might have noticed that the number of links on this blog has been steadily growing. As the numbers of links increases, I will start monitoring the quality of (1) links posted on linkbacklink.blogspot.com and (2) the quality of reciprocal backlinks. Whenever a dead link or backlink is discovered, I will try to contact the owner of the site/blog in order to verify the situation. For the time-being, I will not remove any links that have been posted here so far, although I might remove the hyperlink. (3) I am also reducing the number of posts that open on the front page. For easier browsing, I am adding more internal links posted on the top-right side of the page (in the content section).

All three measures should help to ensure that this blog does not grow into a so-called "link-farm". With your help and support, the quality and value of links should remain high.

Recently, I have received a number of request to explain the basics of linking. Since there is plenty of information on the web, I will provide a very simple explanation with a couple of references for further reading.

1. HTML code

You need to copy and paste the following code into your page:

In a nutshell, this code tells your browser to follow the link that is contained within the quotation marks. A text that follows the quotation marks is displayed as a link: LinkBackLink

If you are a blogger user, or using any other similar service for that matter, posting links is much easier. All you need to do is to type in the text, select it and press the button that looks something like this .

The first target of 1,000 visitors has been reached! Many thanks to all of you for visiting, commenting and linking! My next target is to reach the Alexa Traffic Rank of "top" one million. Right now, I am ranked by Alexa somewhere at 2.7 million. A long way to go..., but not too bad considering that this blog today is only one month old!

Backlinking can substantially increase the traffic to your site. You don´t believe me? Try me. Send your link and I will publish it in this blog. Unless your site is already bathing in huge traffic volumes, any new link is likely to bring you additional visitors and additional search engine interest.

Having said that you should always keep in mind the quality of referred traffic. The bets are that a lot of traffic will be some sort of garbage: robots, random visitors who will spend a few seconds before moving on.

Why should you exchange links with this blog then? Three answers:

My readers are mostly bloggers, just like you. Get the attention of other bloggers in order to benefit from further links, comments etc.
